Description
FPT has designed the hydraulic system for the tightening of the end flanges of the reactor used for the synthesis of ammonia.
The dimensions of the reactor are 16 meters long by 6 in diameter. The flanges are of different dimensions. The largest has 26 prisoners size 7”- 6 UN and the smallest has a diameter of about 1,50 meters with 12 prisoners size 5” 3/4 – 6 UN.
The dimensions have allowed FPT to design a hydraulic tensioner with special puller + reduction nut to be able directly adapted to the different threads as per customer’s request.
The sequence of tensioning was performed with 3-steps to 50% 80% and 100% of the bolt load coming to 1390 bar at 100% load of the bolt then the hydraulic test was carried out of the reactor at a pressure of about 360 bar.
In the event of any hydraulic losses of the reactor the sequence of tensioning should have been repeated up to the 100% of the bolt load with the aim of restoring the failure of the seals of both flanges.
The operations of torque and tensioning due to the size of the reactor took place in a horizontal position and to facilitate the alignment tensioner-stud and the handling of the tensioner itself FPT has produced a specific mounting tool.
For tightening and tensioning of the flanges FPT – Fluid Power Technology has designed and produced:
