FPT Cylinders for laying oil and gas pipelines.
For an important customer operating in the petrochemical and off shore sector FPT has designed and manufactured an hydraulic system that equips the clamping jaws tubes, used on board of ships, for the laying of submarine pipelines.
The jaws are designed to allow axial locking of the pipe sections that are to be welded together before laying in order to realize a single pipe. The hydraulic system that equips the jaws includes No. 3 hydraulic pumps model FPT1-ME2-M-EV4 / 3-20-CD-G-SP, hoses, valves and jacks of different types CDE 45/30-SP, CRI30/50-FO-SP and CDE 5/160.
The hydraulic circuit serves for the opening and closing hinge of the jaw and to the matching and locking of the wedge slides. During the locking operation the equipment provides self-centering of the pipe. The force developed by the cylinders on the wedge slides must be sufficient but not excessive, in order to ensure the locking of the pipe and at the same time removing the risk of ovalization of the same.
